I had the pleasure of photographing actor and musical director Jack Benedict in my home studio. Jack has been an important part of Compass Rose Theater’s recent productions - serving as musical director for Little Shop of Horrors and the upcoming Compass Rose Cabaret. He also performs onstage, so having him in front of my camera was a real treat.
Jack brought several outfits to the session, which gave us a wide variety of looks to choose from. Different looks mean different options - and it really paid off with his set. Working with Jack was wonderful. He has such a strong presence, both with his music direction and in front of the camera, and I can’t wait to see him in his next show whether it be with music direction or on stage. It was an honor to capture him.
For those who like the technical side: this was a 5-light setup. I used three softboxes - one octagon box as the key light, plus two strip boxes with grids. For the background, I kept it simple with two open bulbs and reflectors. The results gave us crisp, professional headshots with depth and dimension.
